Job description: The Multicultural Arts Center is seeking a candidate who brings technical skills, customer service experience, and a passion to wield the power of the arts to activate social change. We are a small, dedicated team and the Production Associate will be an important member of it! This person is responsible for the implementation of our arts programming and private events. This part time position is temporary through August 2021, with the possibility to extend or be made permanent. The Production Associate will work at the direction of the Interim Managing Director in the coordination of facility rentals, performing arts events and gallery receptions, as COVID guidelines allow.

The ideal candidate works as a team player, maintains professional standards with a sense of humor, and brings a thoughtful approach to working with a diverse community that includes our audience members, artists and rental clients from the corporate, private and non-profit sectors. This person is motivated by the mission of the center, with a vested interest in elevating underrepresented voices in the arts and widening access to the arts.

The Production Associate will be expected to maintain a variable work schedule that involves daytime, evening and weekend work. The position will average 12-15 hours per week.

Qualifications:

Experienced in event production; event management experience is a plus

Skilled in use of audio/video recording equipment, lighting and sound design

Experienced with videography, editing, and streaming

Responsibilities

Preparation in advance of events:

Assist with walk-throughs with caterers and rental clients regarding details of upcoming events in coordination with Interim Managing Director

Oversees execution of the Center’s performing arts events:

Coordinates logistics with clients and artists and their crews, including pre-event technical checks and setting space to their specifications

Sets up and strikes all equipment including: chairs, tables, staging, curtains, lighting, cameras, PA system, amplification, etc

Sets and/or runs lighting and sound plots (ETC Express 48/96 Lighting Control Console)

Moves equipment, furniture, and staging weighing up to 50 pounds

Serve as on-site point of contact during event rentals:

Coordinates with outside vendors to ensure space is set up to agreed-upon specifications

Fields day-of questions and concerns with client and acts as a resource throughout the event

Oversees event set-up and break-down and properly returns all Center equipment to storage

Supports gallery receptions and other non-performing arts events as needed

Work closely with the Interim Managing Director to make sure all details of an event are executed to the clients’ satisfaction and respond quickly and proactively to challenges as they arise. Work with on-site security guard as needed for events

Maintain theater and gallery equipment, including but not limited to light and sound equipment, tech storage areas, staging, green room, piano, tables, chairs, and outside courtyard space for all events and rentals

Create and manage a maintenance schedule for all equipment and hire and supervise maintenance contractors

Participate in weekly staff meetings and weekly supervision meetings
